Around Whaley Bridge
The spa town of Buxton is some 9 miles south. Its famous waters are now bottled but can be sampled for free at the ever flowing St Ann's Well. The town has a wealth of historic buildings, many recently renovated. The Opera House plays host to Gilbert and Sullivan and Opera festivals each summer.
Chatsworth House (home of the Duke of Devonshire), Haddon Hall, Lyme Park (NT) and Quarry Bank Mill (NT) are all in easy reach.
Macclesfield, 10 miles west, is still the home of the Cheshire Silk industry.
Regular train services connect Whaley Bridge with Buxton, Stockport and Manchester, whilst the bus offers an additional through connection to Manchester Airport.
